FIX THE NHS

The state of the NHS is one of the top things that people raise with me on the doorstep. I have:

Held meetings with the local NHS Trust and Health Secretary to secure a deal to save St Helier Hospital, regenerating the site and keeping vital services where they are
Engaged with local GP Practices about patient difficulty in securing appointments
Stood up for carers, including highlighting the Carers Allowance overpayment scandal

I promised to play my part in making the economy fairer and easing the cost of living burden. I have:

Been elected as a member of the prestigious Treasury Committee, where I challenged the Chancellor on her budget and have raised other issues like the emerging motor finance scandal and business rates reform
Voted against the Winter Fuel Allowance cut, particularly the impact it may have on disabled pensioners, and opposed the two child-cap on benefits
Took a 110,000 signature petition to Number 10 to stop Amazon avoid tax and called for reform of Capital Gains Tax system so the richest pay their fair share

I am determined to stand up for our local environment and make sure Britain is playing it's role in tackling climate change. I have:

Continued my award-winning campaign to protect the River Wandle, including meetings with OfWat and supporting the South East Rivers Trust on their nature restoration projects
Backed the Climate and Nature Bill that will see Britain cut its emissions, restore nature and ensure nobody is left behind in the transition to a greener economy
Met with local environment and climate groups and raised their concerns with ministers, including about Climate Change on the curriculum

Based on my experience of growing up in the care of my grandparents, I have made children one of my top priorities. I have:

Been raising awareness of Kinship Care, where family look after family. Fighting for better funding and new rights
Stood up for children in care and care leavers, highlighting the lack of mental health support, the poor state of children's homes and the unfairness of giving young carers a lower rate of Universal Credit
Regularly visiting our local schools to take questions from children and help to fix Headteacher's issues both locally and by raising their concerns with the Government

Sutton is one of the safest places to live in London. But residents are becoming increasingly worried about crime. I have:

Challenged the Home Secretary to do more to restore proper community policing, highlighting local cases of car theft not being investigated and shoplifting on Wallington High Street
Had meetings with Met Police Commissioner Mark Rowley and local police officers to find out what more can be done to get more bobbies on the beat
Taking a holistic approach to tackling crime by speaking out against the poor condition of prisons and the lack of focus on rehabilitation in areas like drug addiction

My career was in international affairs and I am taking my experience into Parliament. I will:

Pushed for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the ban of arms sales to Israel and a two-state solution in the Middle East
Been a strong voice for Hong Kong, challenging the Government to take a tough stance on Chinese interference with British Democracy and fighting for improved rights for our local Hong Kong community
Attended the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to help secure justice for Tamils, many of which fled to our borough following the atrocities in Sri Lanka
